About Lifelong performance specialist certification
Developed by injury prevention expert Dr. John Rusin, The Lifelong Performance Specialist Certification is an integrated training based system for optimizing performance while not sacrificing health.

What our PPSC
Alumni are
saying…
“PPSC is the cornerstone tool for the way we keep our clients healthy”
“After being introduced to the Pain-Free Performance System 3-years ago, I was able to finally battle back from a serious back injury that I’d been struggling with for almost a decade. Not only did the system work to get me out of pain, but I also made some serious progress improving strength and muscle mass with no nagging issues to this day. From there, Vigor Ground Fitness has continued implementing this system with our coaches and clients which has become a cornerstone tool for way we keep our clients healthy and getting results.”
Luka Hocevar
Owner of Vigor Ground Fitness
“Focus on one thing – moving PAIN-FREE!”
“We had a great time this weekend attending the Pain-Free Performance Specialist Certification. The PPSC put together a great seminar helping us further understand the importance of developing a more concrete dynamic warm up, an even greater systematic screening approach with emphasis on the 6 foundational movement patterns. We were also provided the tools for on-going assessing in both the group and individual setting – all with the focus on one thing: moving PAIN-FREE.”
Tim Steel
Owner of YorkFit
“PPSC has given me an excellent framework for assessing, creating and implementing!”
“Every client that comes to me has a muscular imbalance, previous injury, or poor movement mechanics. But their goal is often the same- get stronger without injuring or re-injury. The PPSC certification has given me an excellent framework for not only assessing those movement discrepancies but also creating and implementing a thoughtful and intelligent strength program. I feel more confident working with my people and that is invaluable. Thank you so much!”
Kali Stewart
Owner of Scend Fitness

No. Once completed, you will maintain this credential for life. AND you’ll be able to access any updated content or future resources that are provided inside the exclusive and private education platform.
After you’ve watched the content videos, you’ll be able to take the short exam. It’s online, can be done from home whenever you want (it’s NOT proctored), and you’ll have just 30 multiple choice questions to complete with no time limit. You need 80% or higher to pass and you have a few attempts to do this. We have never had a trainer not pass the exam!
Yes! Even if you commit to watching just 1 hour of video a week, you’ll complete this course in approx 3 months. And during this time, you’ll be able to implement the things you’re learning right away so your clients will notice a difference, and you’ll deliver better results immediately.
There are about 12 hours of curriculum content plus additional resources that will help you implement what you’ve learned immediately. While you can choose your pace of learning, trainers typically complete the course in 1-4 weeks.
You can watch these lessons on your own time.
Plus, you’ll have access in a learning portal to ask the instructors questions.
PPSC is the ground-breaking training system adopted by top brands and top trainers all over the world to elevate their training, increase results and put their client’s health first. Where other mobility certs either address cool moves for people who are already flexible or offer “only stretch” type systems, the Pain-Free Mobility Certification delivers a framework to assess, program, coach and modify traditional mobility techniques AND ways to incorporate mobility-focused training methods during the workout that will improve mobility for clients of all levels and goals. This ends up being a much more practical approach for personal trainers who are typically working with clients 1-3 times per week.
Section 1 Flexibility vs Mobility
The principal framework of PPSC is to get strong. Too many people think and train as if mobility and strength are opposites. This section highlights the difference between flexibility and mobility, highlights important mobility considerations and lays out how we assess, improve, maintain, modify and create nuance with Pain-Free Mobility for all clients, all goals and all levels.
Section 2 Baseline Assessment
Not all movement limitations stem from a lack of mobility. Participants will learn this important tool that allows trainers to assess within scope of practice and program specific to the ranges needed to train safely and effectively.
Section 3 Soft Tissue Work
Proper application of soft tissue includes understanding pattern overload, the cumulative injury cycle, local vs global restriction and the different techniques that can be applied in pre, post and beyond training with tools like the foam rollers, trigger point balls, and vibration & percussive devices.
Section 4 Stretching Techniques
In this section we discuss and demonstrate the different types of stretching: static & dynamic – active, passive, PNF, isometrics, banded, assisted, ballistic and resisted/loaded. Participants will identify the massive opportunities to program and coach up mobility across the training session by incorporating some of the techniques into exercises you are already programming.
Section 5 Mobility-Based Corrective
Soft tissue and stretching along is minimally effective. But pairing up corrective exercises that explore ROM, increase motor control and improve movement patterning can make a huge difference. In this section participants will learn how to regress & progressive important correctives as well as how to modify around common pain points like knee, wrist, hip and low back pain, lack of mobility and body size/shape accommodations.
Section 6 Intra-Session Methods
We use these methods the most and yet they are chronically underused in the industry as a whole. Set yourself apart by learning about and implementing things like tempo manipulation, proper superset sequencing, long range variations and smarter recovery modalities.
Section 7 Myofascial Meridians
Level up your understanding of movement and the fascial system by learning about the 12 meridians (also known as anatomy trains.) This can be very useful knowledge for understanding and providing solutions for common aches, pains, postural issues and movement limitations.
Section 8 Unconventional Modalities
In this section we discuss biomechanics, tensegrity and myofascial fitness. This advanced look at mobility training creates opportunities for long-term client retention and high-performance training via tools like KBs, Bulgarian Bags, steel mace, Indian clubs, full body movement, stretch-based movement and sport, dance, martial arts, etc.
Section 9 Programming
Bring it all together in this final section and build your confidence working with clients of all levels and goals across the entire lifespan.

Exam
After completion of the course, you’ll take a short online exam from home of 30 questions. The exam is not timed and you can use your notes. To pass, you need a score of 80% or higher. You have multiple attempts to pass. And once you’ve passed the exam, you’ll be able to immediately download your certificate.
Mobility has been a hot topic for years, and for good reason: the majority of clients want to improve their flexibility, move more comfortably for hobbies and day-to-day living, recover better from their training and reduce the risk of injuries. As a Pain-Free Mobility Specialist, you’ll learn how to assess clients efficiently, implement customized warm ups, coach around common pain points and incorporate the most effective mobility methods INTO workouts instead of just working on mobility alone.
When you choose the Pain-Free Mobility Certification, you’ll get access to:
- Evidence-based content presented in a systematic and easy-to-apply format
- Cutting edge digital learning on our exclusive platform that supports multiple learning styles AND allows you to ask questions and get support from the instructor team
- Additional resources like downloadable templates, sample programs, direct-to-training blueprints and a complete exercise library
There are 30 questions and you must receive an 80% (24 correct) to pass. You may retake the exam as needed in order to pass.
You will take the exam online, on the PPSC site after the certification weekend. We will email with specific instructions after the course.
